Hello there, I’m Shamayun Miah and sharing my great experiences of fundraising which we’ve done for the children of Yemen.
On a cold, dark and wet December day in 2020 we, a group of amateur newbie cycling enthusiasts, successfully completed the 102 kilometre bike ride from London to Brighton. We started in high spirits from Camden town and tackled all the many testing climbs with irreconcilable gusto and dread. I’d heard it would take a new rider anything between six and ten hours to complete. Well, we did it, the ride was conquered perfectly within 9:43 minutes. Perseverance pays. Mind over matter is my life’s motto. So even though the training beforehand was a little sketchy I always knew I’d see it to the end.
We surpassed our fundraising target for the children of Yemen, raising a total of £7,500. Thank you to all for your very generous donations.
I remind everyone that Yemen is six years into an armed conflict that has killed and injured over 18,400 civilians; it remains the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. Yemen is experiencing the world’s worst food crisis, with 20.1 million people—nearly two-thirds of the population—requiring food assistance. I’m Shamayun Miah, I am a father too and it is my belief all children should have, as birthright, access to water, food and medical treatment. This conviction has spurred me to do the little I can, in my own way, to make a difference to the lives of a handful of children.
There are lots of great charities out there, please get involved, promote, and donate generously to help alleviate the suffering of the people of Yemen.
